Still Life and Soundscapes

Uncertain Studio

CHIANG Tao and TSENG Yen-Ting create works that bring together objects, shadowplay, and soundscapes. In this project, they wish to invite co-creators to explore the format and concept of the “micro-scene,” which is a recurring feature in their work.“Micro-scenes” are narrative spaces created through the choice and arrangement of objects, and multi-layered soundscapes. “Huldur” is a sound installation developed by CHIANG and TSENG during an artist-in-residence program in Iceland in 2014. Consisting of a “micro-quartet” with objects of different materials that transmit sounds, it implicates complex evolution of the relationship between humans and nature. “The No Place,” created and performed during an artist-in-residence program in the UK in 2018, is a project of a similar form in which scenes of the social protest are represented. Different varieties of apples are used to stand for different factions of protesters, appearing from different corners of the scene and voicing their diverse stances in the protest.

During the project, TSENG Yen-Ting will lead the“Still Life Narrative” practice while CHIANG Tao leads the “Soundscape Construction” practice. By analyzing messages conveyed through objects and sound elements which both help construct a“scene,” the project invites the co-creators to utilize both elements to create unique object-landscapes/ soundscapes and sensory experiences in a specific environment. Each group of co-creators is given practical tasks and is expected to exhibit their“micro-scene” as an installation later in.
