lecture performance
In terms of performing for an audience, the developments of theater, social movements, and performance art seem to have converged and intersected with one another more than ever in the 1990s. Important events of performative and theatrical qualities in the 1990s have shaped our understanding of several major questions at the time, such as what a performance is, who performs, if a performance should be carried out at all, what is performed, etc. Even how we approach“performance” and “live art” nowadays is under their influences. This project chooses four performance events—CHEN Ming-Tsai, “The Wedding of Hou’s Family: Red on the Ground,” Critical Point Theater Phenomenon’s “Ah-nu, White Marguerite,” Taiwan Walker Theater—and uses lecture performance to address the legacy of the 1990s and issues being dealt with, such as sabotaged life, sex and intimacy, social movements and theater, and amateur.
