Regarding Days That Were Difficult to Launch

LEE Kit

Regarding Days That Were Difficult to Launch, a new artistic endeavor by artist LEE Kit, is comprised of works including “Instructions for Going Out,” “Elevator Music,” and “How Far Can I Get Away from You in 2 Seconds?" These works imagine various daily real-world situations and nuanced on-site experiences with personal perceptual experiences as a starting point.

Young actors have been invited to execute weekly or biweekly Instructions for Going Out. More than one person will be in attendance at each of these events that will take place within the parameters of Taipei City, at a location to be determined by the performer. The time of the event will be made public, but the location will not be announced. This work attempts to present performances without a live audience and relies solely on impressions of sound and fragments to approach the senses in exchange for the power to “remind.” The artist believes that this is the way art should be, and that the experiences of individual lives have always been fragmented.

Elevator Music is an hour-long segment of sound/background music spliced and edited together from a variety of musical fragments and environmental sounds, which will be played as a continuous loop in the exhibition room. These sounds/background music impart to the audience a sense that: “People recall certain sounds or music in relation to events that have occurred or people who have previously appeared, even when the musical content has no direct relationship to these people or events.”“How Far Can I Get Away from You in 2 Seconds?” is a performance that measures psychological distance through physical action. Inspired by hiking activities which have become popular of late, the artist has decided to execute this work at the scene of various social incidents. With a humorous and ironic intent, he invites the audience to contemplate “how far can I run away from you (the scene of the incident) after two seconds?”
